Quatre étapes sont nécessaires pour l'étude des paysages. 1 - identification des éléments du relief (topographie) plaines, vallées, coteaux... 2 -identification des différents types de matériaux (géologie) le pays de Duras se compose de matériaux argilo-calcaire liés aux dépôts sédimentaires et marins lors de la formation du bassin aquitain et de molasses provenant de l'érosion du Massif Central. 3 - identification de l'occupation humaine, rapport de l'homme à son milieu, des hommes entre eux, de leurs activités et des différents usages de l'espace, parcellaire et aménagement du territoire.  4 - identification des axes de circulation. Pour mieux appréhender le territoire agricole et viticole du Pays de Duras, une exposition didactique et ludique est visible gratuitement à la Maison des Vins à Duras.
